David Kirkland Root
David Kirkland Root aged 82, passed away unexpectedly on December 3, 2019, in his Crown Point, IN and Melbourne, FL homes. Born in Chicago, IL on November 26, 1937, Dave had a remarkable life shaped by his love for adventure and service. After enlisting in the Marines following high school, he pursued higher education at Ripon College, where he earned an economics degree and excelled in the Army ROTC program. With a distinguished military career spanning 23 years, including two combat tours in Vietnam, Dave retired as an Army Major and Air-Borne paratrooper. He then joined Root Brothers, the family business, helping it become a prominent player in the industrial distribution marketplace. Apart from his professional pursuits, Dave was a skilled woodworker and a captivating storyteller. He had an insatiable thirst for knowledge, a passion for reading, collecting wine, and cherished moments spent with his children and grandchildren.
